Halloween

The furry person spent the day in the yard moving the leaves with this green box that roared. There were big piles of colored leaves afterward that would have been heavenly to play in.

The red haired person was doing something to the floor in the kitchen and was smearing white paste into holes in the floor, when I tried to help I got something sticky on my paw and she grabbed me and put my paw in water, how revolting!

After that, she locked Lucy and I in our room. At least we could look at the window. About dinner time, the strangest thing started happening. All of these little humans with their parents started walking through the neighborhood carrying little bags. They were in all sorts of odd clothes, and some of them even looked like cats and dogs.

Many of them came to our house and knocked on the door or pressed the doorbell. The furry person gave them treats. It was very insulting, we dress like cats everyday and we don't get those kinds of treats. Just another example of people keeping the felines down.

After about 2 hours of this, the furry person let us out. He wasn't paying attention to us, and Lucy and I saw that the door to the basement was open. We aren't allowed there, but we knew it had to be a place of wonder and mystery. We slipped down the green carpeted stairs and realized we weren't being followed. It was full of boxes and clothes and all kinds of wonderful things. There were new smells and old smells and all kinds of fun places to hide in.

Finally, Lucy got hungry and went back to our room, but not me. I was going to explore the outer reaches of the basement. An intrepid explorer, living on the edge, thats me!

Then I heard a familiar noise...

No, it couldn't be, not now! But there it was, the feathers and bell on a stick. Shaking and ringing looking like a bird hovering low. I know its not real, its just a toy, but it calls to something deep inside of me, that primal cat part of me that wants to kill prey.

In a flash I was up the stairs attacking and in my fury to kill the faux bird, I heard that horrible sound. "Click.", The door was closed and I'm in the boring kitchen again.

I feel so ashamed. I'm going to drown my sorrows in kibble now. Paradise has been lost.

My Life Thus Far

There is not much to tell, I was born on June 17, 2009. Part of a large litter. I'm not sure what happened to my mom, she was gone fairly quick and then I was raised by my foster mother, a kind lady in Mishawaka Indiana. I don't remember her name, but she fed us with a bottle and treated us very well, she cuddled and played with us. There were lots of other brothers and sisters and other cats in the house. There was always someone to play with.

When we got old enough and weren't on the bottle anymore, we were taken to Pet Refuge in Mishawaka. They would take us out to places where humans could come pet us and meet us to see if they wanted to adopt us. Finally, one day at a PetSmart store, I was adopted by two nice humans, one very tall man with a furry face and his mate, a pretty lady with red hair.

I missed my foster Mom at first, but my new parents also adopted my sister Lucy, so I didn't feel so alone.

Lucy was the alpha female of the litter. She bossed everyone around and allowed no dissent in the ranks. She was in charge, no mistaking it. But she always kept an eye out for me and would clean my ears and snuggle up with me during naps.

Introductions

Hello, my name is Linus.

I'm a white and orange short hair domestic cat. Some of you may be wondering how a cat could actually write a blog, let alone use a keyboard. That's where I am kind of special. You see, I have thumbs. I'm a polydactyl cat, I have an extra toe on my front paws that allows me to do things that others can't. But my uniqueness extends beyond the thumbs, not many people know it, but polydactyl cats are actually different in many other ways that humans don't know about.

We have an ability to understand human language, though we choose to pretend we can't, and we have a cognitive ability to think and reason far beyond our feline brothers. We are the great thinkers, historians and philosophers of the cat world. None of this has ever been shared before, I felt it was time to shed some light on the subject, maybe to protect my brothers from the disrespect that so many cats suffer in this cruel dog-dominted world.

The other reason I am writing is that I have this need to make sense of the world around me. My humans spend hours at the computer typing in things, moving the mouse and using the printer. I noticed that one of them, the big furry faced guy who always cleans my litterbox was adding things to his weblog. When the humans left for the day, I managed to open the door to the computer room and set about learning how it works.

I'm very excited to have my own blog, lets hope the humans don't find out. Keep this our little secret for now.
